Friday Night Sew In- Finish

Last night, I participated in The Friday Night Sew In.  I must admit, I was beat from a long week and had it not been for the Sew In, I would have crawled into bed early to watch tv.  Luckily, I had already signed up, so I accomplished something!  I finished one of my purses that had been sitting in the closet for over a year.  It took longer than I would have thought, actually.

I did do the top quilting on the second bag as well.  I think if I had all the other pieces cut out, I would have finished both.  I am hoping to do so today.  I already did my grocery shopping for the weekend, so I should be all set to sew some more instead of eating all of the groceries

Did I mention that my iron had a meltdown.  Yes, it is time to buy a new one....it became so hot last night that I noticed the plastic was burning.  Fabulous.

Then I decided to show husband so he would not think I was being frivolous getting a new one, and I didn't realize how hot the plastic really was (sounds so stupid now) and I burned my finger right up under my nail (don't ask me how).  I am having a hard time typing.  Double fabulous.   Does anyone have any iron suggestions?

I have made this bag before.  I like it because there are a couple of ways to make it "new", plus with all of the scrappiness...it can always be unique.  Here are the two other examples that I have made before, just in case you missed them the first time I posted them.
As always, a special thank you to Heidi and Bobbi for organizing the event.  I am really glad that I participated.

Great bag! Bummer on your Iron... for me I love a heavy iron. I have a Shark which I bought at the. Canadian Tire. (no; there is not only tires there.) It is a big chain store in Canada with household items at very good prices. Hope you get to sew and rest this week-end!

Your bag turned out darling! Too bad about your iron. Mine did the same not too long ago, now the one I have...I hate it! I'm too cheap (broke) to go buy another one though...oh well! Good luck on your iron search!

That purse is SO cute! Good for you on getting it done. I'm so sorry you burned yourself on your iron. I like my irons to be heavy - I have a Black and Decker Classic [looks like it's from the 50's]. The only problem with it is the steam - it started to leak. But I hardly use steam anyway, I have a spray bottle that I spritz out wrinkles with.

Congratulations on a wonderfully productive night! Your bag is adorable!

Sorry about the iron. I'm a rowenta fan -- I know others have had problems with them, but I'm always sure to put just the right water (gallon sized drinking water) in their fussy tummies and I love mine. We thought my 15 yr. old one had a cord meltdown so I got a new one. Hubby then figured out how to fix the cord, so now I have a spare and I love them both!

So many girls right now are complaining about their irons. My friend bought a Rowenta, which I have and has had trouble with leaking when she fills it too high. Luckily, when she fills it lower than they suggest she can iron nicely. Mine works fine so I have no complaints. The best one I ever had truthfully was the original Black & Decker with no frills...loved mine till I dropped and broke it :)
Your purses are gorgeous. I love the fabric choices and shape. Could you share the pattern name?

Hope your finger feels better soon.

Your bags are A-DOR-ABLE! You're our new "Resident Club Bag Expert"!!! Love them all. I'm not an iron expert, but I have a Rowenta iron -- love it because it doesn't have an automatic shut off!

Love that bag! It is so bright and cheerful!

I'm with Anna on the iron issue. I also have a Rowenta and I love it. And you know that I'm waiting for the big steamer bad boy to get delivered too.

Ouchie, that must hurt! :S I have a cheapy iron and I am going to need to replace it soon. It seems to have started leaking which irritates me.
CUTE purse! Can you tell me what pattern you are using??
