Pinwheel Quilt Along- Block 2

Yea!  Week 2 is here already.  Here are my two 2nd blocks.  You're still not too far behind, there is time for you to join in the fun.  Here is the link for week two.  This week was easy peasey, folks!  Thanks again to Rachel for all of the fun.

I think I really like that blue one, and I am not a blue fan typically.  Come back tomorrw, I am going share my goals for the month.  I still haven't a clue what they are ....so we will all be in for a surprise!

Disney on Ice

We had a great time today.  My  mom treated Buddy to Disney on Ice tickets.  Here is our little mousekateer...
In true Disney style, everything from the storyline, to the costumes, to the skating was top notch.  We sure had a good time.

Winner

Oh thank you so much on all of the sweet comments about my purses.  Unfortunately, I could only pick one winner this time.  I did the number system and husband picked a number.  Congratulations to Susan from Blackberry Creek Home Arts, you won!  You'll be receiving the bag in the front of the picture. It is actually my favorite of the two! I think I even already have your information, Susan.  So, I will get that out to you just as soon as I pick up some packing materials!

I am especially glad to have finished these 2 UFO's from my closet and accomplished my CGQC goals for the month.

Until next time, happy sewing everyone!

Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along

Have you heard?  Rachel has posted the first block of the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along.  You should join in the fun.  Here is the link to the first block.  You actually make 2 of block one.

You can use a layer cake for the quilt along or fat quarters along with sashing yardage.  The quilt will be around a 70 inch square.

Here are my two blocks!
I am using the Boutique Layer Cake. This was a gift to me from my wonderful friend, Kelly. I am so excited to be using this fabric. It is going to be fabulous. I was pretty pleased with my first two blocks.  The red accent fabric looks a little odd here...it looks better in person.

So, what are you waiting for?  I KNOW you have some fabric stashed somewhere that you could use.  Join in the fun.  A special thanks to Rachel for all of her work on the Quilt Along.  I am having a fabulous time.

Don't forget to get in on the giveaway (previous post).  There is still time.

What is better than 1? 2 and a giveaway

SORRY the giveaway is now closed.

When I started these bags over a year ago, I thought to myself that I would give one away.  Guess there is no time like the present.  I will be giving away one of these beauties.  If you'd like to be entered in the giveaway ALL you need to do is leave a comment.

Here are some new goodies I picked up from Kelly's shop.  Kelly has the best customer service, plus her prices are very fair.  You should go check out some of her new lines.  I am in love with Verna.

Friday Night Sew In- Finish

Last night, I participated in The Friday Night Sew In.  I must admit, I was beat from a long week and had it not been for the Sew In, I would have crawled into bed early to watch tv.  Luckily, I had already signed up, so I accomplished something!  I finished one of my purses that had been sitting in the closet for over a year.  It took longer than I would have thought, actually.

I did do the top quilting on the second bag as well.  I think if I had all the other pieces cut out, I would have finished both.  I am hoping to do so today.  I already did my grocery shopping for the weekend, so I should be all set to sew some more instead of eating all of the groceries

Did I mention that my iron had a meltdown.  Yes, it is time to buy a new one....it became so hot last night that I noticed the plastic was burning.  Fabulous.

Then I decided to show husband so he would not think I was being frivolous getting a new one, and I didn't realize how hot the plastic really was (sounds so stupid now) and I burned my finger right up under my nail (don't ask me how).  I am having a hard time typing.  Double fabulous.   Does anyone have any iron suggestions?

I have made this bag before.  I like it because there are a couple of ways to make it "new", plus with all of the scrappiness...it can always be unique.  Here are the two other examples that I have made before, just in case you missed them the first time I posted them.
As always, a special thank you to Heidi and Bobbi for organizing the event.  I am really glad that I participated.

What are you doing Friday night?

What are you doing Friday night?  I'm sewing.  I'll be working on my ME bags that are partially started.  You should join me...and about a 150 other gals.  Did I mention that there are prizes?  Heidi and her friend Bobbi are wonderful.  They are so nice for organizing these events.  Head on over to Heidi's blog to sign up and read up on the rules.  (The rules are VERY simple, btw.)

I hope to "see" you there!

Back from the spa, and a finish to share

I had a great weekend.  What did you do??  My friend and I went to a salon in Traverse City, Michigan.  We had the ultimate pedicure.  I decked out the tootsies in a red sparkle nail polish in honor of Valentine's Day.  Then we did some shopping.  We also dined at this trendy restaurant called Trattoria Stella.  They prepare their daily menu choices based on the local farms.  Pretty cool, right?  Trattoria Stella is located at The Village of Grand Traverse Commons.  Isn't it pretty?

These building use to be the state mental institute, which was shut down in the 80's.  Recently they have been renovated to fit wineries, local farmer's markets, restuarants, shops, and very cool lofts/suites.  I think it is great that this beautiful building is being put to use.

So, we've been watching a lot of the Olympic coverage.  Is anyone else an addict?  But I did sit down and zip this together this morning.  It was a piece of cake, I have no idea what took me so long to finish it.  Most of you know where to find this SWEET TREAT pattern that uses honeybuns, but here is the link just in case.

Kati Cupcake Bag

I used the Kati Cupcake pattern, Amira.  I am so please with this bag.  I think it is just darling.

Doesn't this button look great.  You don't want to know how much I spent on the button, but it is perfect.
I even like the bottom of the bag.
I made it for my galpal.  We are taking a trip to her house this weekend.  Her husband is sending us to the spa... doesn't that sound great??  I decided she could use a new birthday purse to go to the spa with!  Although, it is hard to part with this one.  I love it.  I took it to work today to show it off...and everyone loved it.

Snowday Project

So, we were hit with some snow last night.  You can see husband's tracks out of the driveway, perhaps that will show you the depth to this winter madness.  I think we have about 10 inches.  It is the most we've had this year.  It has been a strange winter here.
So my snow day project is a Kati Cupcake bag.  I hope to get it done today.

February CGQC Goals

Love is in the air, right?  Well, I'd love to get some of these UFO's out of the closet and finish them.

First up....about a year ago I sewed these honeybun strips together to make a Sweet Treat Bag.  You can see, this did not happen.  I believe that I couldn't "see" how to do it, but I am sure it will come together if I just do it.

Second up....I need to finish both of these purses.  Why I haven't is beyond me.  I think I was making one of them for myself to go with this great new pair of jeans I had.  I say had because I quickly became too fat to wear too cool to wear and what is the purpose of matching a purse to a great new pair of jeans that no longer fits you no longer wear.  Don't judge me.
